THE SET-UP: “Don’t shit where you eat.”
Those punchy words of wisdom probably derive from the Italian idiom “sputare nel piatto in cui si mangia.” The literal translation is “spit in the plate you eat from.” The point, according to an online Italian dictionary, is to warn against or criticize an “attitude of contempt” for something that or someone who sustains you.
It was the first thing that came to mind when Trump’s fecal flyover video went viral during the “No Kings” protest. Although it’s been pooh-poohed by his minions, the self-appointed Defecator-in-Chief was doing a lot more than just trolling millions of protesters. Instead of defecating where he eats … he was defecating where his enemies eat and, in so doing, he let the entire nation know he has nothing but contempt for everyone who didn’t vote for him.
When you realize he doesn’t need to “eat” in so-called “Blue States” or “Blue Cities,” it explains the otherwise inexplicable shamelessness of his Presidency. He doesn’t need them, so he simply does care what they think. He doesn’t care if fifty-four percent of Americans disapprove of his performance. He doesn’t care if they object to his insults or his conduct. He doesn’t care if they are living in fear. He doesn’t care if they are outraged by his unprecedented exploitation of the Presidency for personal gain. And that contempt could explain why he and his family don’t bother to hide their corruption.
They don’t have to hide it. They can operate with an impunity “the likes of which nobody has ever seen.” For example, the Financial Times kicked off today’s newscycle with a mindboggling report on the Pentagon awarding a contract to a “Trump Jr-linked drone company.”

Hmmm … a ‘little-known’ company somehow beat an industry teeming with widely-known drone makers. I wonder how that happened…
Florida-based Unusual Machines, in which Trump Jr has held a $4mn stake, said the US army had contracted it to manufacture 3,500 drone motors, alongside various other drone parts.
It appears that the company’s name isn’t the only thing unusual about this deal:
Allan Evans, the company’s chief executive, said he believed it was the largest order for Unusual Machines parts from the US government to date, but declined to disclose the value of the contract.
Well, that’s pretty unusual.
Then again, it is *possible* that Unusual Machines scored its “largest order" ever on the merits of its products. Possible … but not probable with the sycophantic Secretary of Warfighting Lethality running amok around the outer ring of the Pentagon. And then there is the issue of timing…
Unusual Machines brought Trump Jr on as an adviser in November 2024. The Financial Times earlier this year found shares in the company almost tripled in price in the weeks leading up to its disclosure of the move.
Well, that’s interesting.
We’ve got the son of a president brought on by a company that could benefit from papa’s presidency. Sounds vaguely familiar. Of course, Rep. James Comer (R-KY) isn’t saying or doing a damn thing about this Hunter-like behavior. To be fair, Burisma wasn’t engaged in a direct business relationship with Biden’s Administration. On the other hand, Unusual Machines’ CEO told FT that Don Jr “did not advise or do anything else on this deal.” So, he was brought into the fold despite having no experience advising anyone about drones … and he was richly rewarded for his ignorance. Now that sounds awfully familiar.
But Don Jr need not worry.
Comer’s guaranteed to run the House Oversight Committee like the “House Overlook Committee.” He’s certain to overlook the flashing red light emanating from the strange tripling of Unusual Machines’ stock price in the lead-up to surfacing Don Jr’s “advisory” role in the company.
That’s awfully fishy.
We may never know just how fishy it is, though, because Trump’s Regime set the tone early on with its de facto stand-down order on white collar crime. Both the DOJ and the SEC have been pressured to deprioritize investigations into the type of financial crimes one might expect from Trump, his family, his cronies and his benefactors. And now that Trump has obliterated what was left of the wall between the DOJ and the President, he is free to direct AG Bondi to prosecute his enemies for crimes he and members of cabinet have themselves committed. Even worse, Bondi is basically a green light for Trump’s generous benefactors … they, too, can operate with impunity over the next three years.
For all intents and purposes, Trump is largely unencumbered by the laws he says he is empowered to enforce as the nation’s “top law enforcement officer.” He doesn’t have to worry about Congressional oversight or the public’s opinion of his shenanigans.
That was made abundantly clear this week … and not just from his shitty video … but from the barrage of headlines featured in today DAILY THREAD. If you are not one of the apostates he symbolically covered in crap, don’t worry … he’s got you covered. - jp
